Get to know SCE Australia

SCE Australia was founded by Todd Sheldon to bring back a client service culture to the engineering industry. Todd was born and raised in Bendigo which has shaped him as a person and his core values of authenticity, integrity and positivity. These values are now a trademark of the entire SCE organisation. Todd spent 2 decades mastering his craft in Melbourne and London on complex and challenging projects across the world. In Todd’s role as Technical Director with Aurecon Australia for over 10 years, he led large teams and was responsible for significant projects throughout Victoria and Australia.

At SCE this same senior technical expertise that the large multinational firms promote is available, but is far more hands on and involved in each and every project. SCE understands that clients want the best engineers working on their project and at SCE, we can confidently say we provide this service. SCE takes it’s recruitment and team satisfaction seriously, which ensures that both SCE and its client partners are a success.

We have offices strategically located in central Melbourne to service the Melbourne region and Bendigo to service rural Victoria.

Authenticity

For SCE authenticity means putting our clients at ease by making sure they are aware that we are looking after their best interests. We keep our clients informed and as required explain everything so that they understand the why. Key team members

Todd Sheldon - Director

Todd has over 20 years experience in the structural engineering and multidiscipline design management fields. He has extensive experience across all market sectors in which SCE operates. Todd is an open and honest communicator with a can do, hands on approach. He has instilled the importance of the client experience across the entire SCE business.

Dr Shan Kumar – Principal Structural Engineer

Shan has over 30 years structural engineering design experience and his innovative approach saw him named in 2017 by the institution of engineers as one of Australia’s most innovative engineers in Australia. Shan was also honoured in 2020 by being awarded the John Connell Gold Medal which is the most prestigious award for structural engineers in Australia. Shan has a deep passion for engineering and a ‘can do practical attitude’. He has been the lead structural engineer for many large and complex projects across Australia and the world and brings a wealth of experience to SCE.

Vipul Kharade - Project Structural Engineer

Vipul is a leader of people with a high intelligence who inspires teams to strive and deliver. He has been responsible throughout much of his career for leading high performing teams of engineers to achieve a significant number of large and challenging projects. Vipul has extensive design management and structural engineering experience. He has always remained hands on with projects, enabling him to deliver them himself, or lead teams to deliver. Vipul is well suited to making significant contributions to the success of his projects.

Matt Thornton - Project Structural Engineer

Matt has over 14 years of structural engineering and building industry experience. Matt has worked as a structural engineering consultant for the past 10 years and has helped deliver projects predominantly within the residential sector, but also within the commercial, mining and industrial sectors. Prior to his work as a structural engineering consultant, Matt spent 4 years working in residential construction where he was able to gain a greater understanding of construction methods and techniques. Matt’s construction background combined with his extensive structural design experience has provided him with a highly useful skillset.

James Coughlin - Structural Engineer

James is an enthusiastic and dedicated structural engineer with a can-do attitude. James is a 2020 graduate structural engineer who has an overwhelming passion for structural design. His rural upbringing has shaped him as an individual who is approachable and has natural leadership qualities. These contributing factors have been instrumental in securing work programs across Australia. As a young engineer, James possesses the enthusiasm and ability to tackle any challenge that is presented to him and provides excellent outcomes for his clients. James brings a youthful enthusiasm to the team and a passion for achieving excellence.

Tony Phan - Structural Engineer, PhD

With a passion for structural design, Tony attained his PhD degree in structural engineering and is capable of tackling a wide range of structural challenges. As a dedicated structural engineer, Tony possesses the can-do attitude and focus on details to deliver success for his clients. He has extensive skills in structural analysis and engineering software that aid in the delivery of successful project outcomes for his clients.

Joel Clarke - Graduate Structural Engineer

Joel is a 2022 1st class honors graduate structural engineer with a wide varying engineering background for a young career. His confidence and ambitions make him a natural leader with the ability to also be a great team player. Joel understands his skillset and has a great knack for making use of his natural qualities in any given situation. Having had a life-long interest in structural design, Joel brings an enthusiastic optimism to every project he is involved with to ensure success for his clients.
